Synthetic fibre · SHD / EX
Soft synthetic tips, with two configurations to refine the feel.

The feel
Choose SHD for easier opening and a softer, more relaxed response. Choose EX for greater density, a firmer backbone and a quicker return to shape.
Both use the same fibre. The difference comes from density and the way the knot is assembled.
Shapes & sizes
Material · Synthetic fibre · SHD / EX
Shapes · Fan and Bulb · SHD and EX
Diameters · 23, 25, 27 and 29 mm
These are reference options, rather than a stock list. Your brush page states the knot fitted; for a bespoke piece, we agree the version, diameter and exposed loft together.
Construction & reference lofts
Development involved 48 brushes and 16 parameter combinations, aiming to balance soft tips with a defined backbone.
SHD is specified at 10–15% lower density than EX, with a more relaxed setting. It is intended to open more readily and release lather more freely.
The same reference lofts are listed for SHD and EX. Total knot height is listed as 70 mm for both shapes; measurements can vary slightly with configuration.
Reference lofts below are in millimetres. Loft is the length of hair or fibre exposed above the handle; total knot height also includes the part fitted into the handle.
| Diameter (mm) | Bulb loft (mm) | Fan loft (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| 23 | 50 | 48 |
| 25 | 52 | 50 |
| 27 | 53 | 51 |
| 29 | 55 | 52 |
Your Talarico brush
The recommended knot is included in the listed price of each catalogue brush. We can discuss other knots or settings before you order.
I make complete shaving brushes; handles and loose knots are not sold separately.
Care after use
Rinse thoroughly, gently shake out excess water and allow the brush to dry in a ventilated place. Let the tips do the work rather than pressing the knot flat.
